“Selva” by La Portuaria, live perforamance with Juana Molina in 1993

When I arrived today from the record fair, I asked my dad if he liked La Portuaria, asI bought the album Huija by them. He just answered me that the only popular song they had was “Selva”, meaning that he wasn’t very interested in them  (I just discovered that my dad was wrong because the song “Baby” is by them, and I swear that there was a time in Argentina when that song was playing everywhere. You have to know that song if you have been living here.)

But “Selva” is an old song by La Portuaria, it’s from the album they released in 1993 called Devorador de corazones. This is an old video too. Juana was very young which means that she was still a very popular actress in Argentina thanks to her tv show Juana y sus hermanas. In interviews she says that she was always interested in music, and I think that this performance shows it, even if her music talent wouldn’t be shown to the world for a couple of years.

I don’t know why La Portuaria invited Juana Molina to sing with them. Did they feel that she was going to be an important musician, the only one that is representing us internationally? Maybe, maybe not. Still, this is a very nice live performance.
